Like
most people at The Tape Gallery, I started life as a runner, working for Columbia
Pictures in their Dispatch Department. After three months of lugging film cans around Soho I decided this wasn't the career for me and advanced to tea-boy at Advision Music Studios. During my four years there as a Projectionist I also made tea for people like Geoff Wayne (working on War of The Worlds), Yes, and Emerson Lake & Palmer & Gentle Giant. I then progressed to Leeward Sound Studios as a junior engineer, spending four years mixing commercials until one of my clients suggested that we set up our own studio. He put in the money, I put in the work and on April Fools Day, 1981 The Tape Gallery was born. We started renting half a floor, which encompassed one transfer bay, one studio and one office. Since then we have grown to 5 audio rooms, one edit suite, three transfer bays and numerous offices. Our staff has grown from three to thirty-five, and alongside the studios we have established five other companies; Tape Gallery Productions, The Music Gallery, The SFX Gallery, Tape Gallery Multimedia and The Voice Gallery. ...and every now and then I still make the tea! |
